Reservoir loop Latschau

Latschau sits on a terrace around 300 m above Tschagguns, and in the middle of the hamlet lies the illwerke vkw reservoir: built from 1938 to 1944, extended by a second basin in 1972, with a usable volume of 2.24 million m³ it serves as a daily storage reservoir for the Rodund power stations down in the valley, which use a head of around 350 m. The winter trail circles the reservoir in 1.7 km with 51 m of ascent – a matter of 40 minutes – and according to state data is practically cleared all the way round. As you walk, you look across the valley to the Hochjoch and Bartholomäberg and up to the rock walls of the Rätikon.

The path starts at the middle station of the Golmerbahn (Vandans – Latschau – Grüneck), which serves the Golm ski area in winter (operating dates according to the operator). Combine it with the climb from Tschagguns via the Lochmühle, with the long loop to Grabs or with the natural toboggan run down from the Berggasthof Grabs. From our house it is 19 minutes by car (free parking in Latschau) or bus 650 to Schruns and then the Landbus to Latschau.
