From Gortipohl via Innergant and Innerziggam to St. Gallenkirch

For us this is the way into the village: from the centre of Gortipohl (898 m) you climb gently along the Allmeinweg onto the sunny slope north of the Ill, walk past the farms of Innergant and Kloster Maria Hilf – home since 1955 to the Franciscan Sisters of Maria Hilf, who also run a guesthouse – and descend via Innerziggam into the centre of St. Gallenkirch (880 m). 3.4 km, 108 m of ascent and 96 m of descent; the track generously allows two hours, but brisk walkers will need considerably less. The state of Vorarlberg classifies the route as an easy winter trail; according to state data a good half of it is groomed and the rest cleared.

Its appeal lies in its position: the slope catches the winter sun while the valley floor is already in shade, and opposite you have the Grasjoch and Valisera with their pistes in view. Return to Gortipohl either along the Illweg by the river (together they form the loop via Innerziggam) or on bus 650/670 from St. Gallenkirch – the stop is 400 m from our house.
