Winter walking trail Freda
Short high-level trail from the Grasjoch top station along the cross area and snowpark to the Grasjoch Hütte: 1.5 km, 51 m of ascent, 45 minutes at around 2,000 m.
The Freda winter trail is the second short walk at the Grasjoch Bahn top station – and the more entertaining one: it runs right beside the cross area and freestyle area of the Snowpark Montafon, so as you walk you can watch the freeskiers and snowboarders doing their jumps. 1.5 km, 51 m of ascent, about 45 minutes, between 1,970 and 2,021 m; the operator rates it as moderate because the path is narrower and less level than the little Grasjoch loop. At the end, the Grasjoch Hütte awaits with its sun terrace and views across the valley to the Rätikon and Verwall.
Like all Silvretta Montafon trails, the Freda trail is groomed by the cable car company and only open when the lifts run (winter 2026/27: 19 December 2026 to 4 April 2027); pedestrians use the "ascent & descent" ticket. The Grasjoch Bahn valley station is 2 km from our house – on foot along the Illweg, on bus 650/670 to the Valisera-Bahn stop, or by car (parking charged in winter). To extend the day, take the Hochalpila Bahn up to 2,430 m.
