Douglasshütte (1,979 m)
Mountain inn right at the top station of the Lünersee cable car: lakeside terrace, playground, overnight stays – start for lake loop, Totalphütte and Schesaplana.

The Douglasshütte stands at 1,979 m right at the top station of the Lünersee cable car, on the shore of the Lünersee – named after John Sholto Douglass, one of the pioneers of alpinism in the Rätikon. The house has a chequered history: built in 1871 as the Lünerseehütte, rebuilt in 1877 after an avalanche, flooded in 1959 when the lake was dammed and rebuilt on higher ground in 1960. Since 2009 the hut has no longer belonged to the Alpine Club but to the energy company illwerke vkw; Mariette Schedler and her family have been the tenants ever since. Alpine Club members still receive a discount on overnight stays in rooms and dormitories. Panorama restaurant, lakeside terrace and conservatory look out over the turquoise-green lake; there is a breakfast buffet, cakes and ice cream, vegetarian and vegan dishes, a children's playground and free wifi.
The hut is the starting point for the level lake loop, for the Totalphütte (1¼ hours) and the Schesaplana (2¾ hours), and for the crossings to the Heinrich-Hueter-Hütte (2 hours) and into the Rellstal. From our house you drive via Bludenz into the Brandnertal, about 45 minutes to the valley station in Brand; if you skip the cable car, climb via the "Böser Tritt" in 1¼ hours. Open with the Lünersee cable car, summer 2026: 23 May – 26 October, daily 8 am – 10 pm; no winter operation. The owner plans a new building as a day restaurant without overnight stays – no date has been set yet.
