Gasthaus Knappastoba
Mountain restaurant of the Ganahl brothers at the Kristbergbahn top station (1,450 m): Sura Kees in courgette, Kässpätzle, flambéed Kaiserschmarren – closed Tuesdays.
The Knappastoba stands at 1,450 m just 60 m above the top station of the Kristbergbahn – the name recalls the miners (Knappen) who dug silver and copper on the Kristberg for centuries. Since autumn 2025 the brothers Tobias and Sebastian Ganahl have run the inn, after Gabi and Albert Netzer had operated it for 16 years; one of the two is a trained chef, and the motto is regional and fresh. The menu lists Sura Kees wrapped in courgette, Muntafuner Kässpätzle, venison sausage, Tyrolean Gröstl and a Kaiserschmarren flambéed at the table, plus apple strudel and cake of the day. From the terrace you look out over the Silbertal. An English-language hiking portal names the Knappastoba as the refreshment stop on the walk from Innerberg up to the Kristberg.
The Kristbergbahn runs in summer 2026 from 1 May to 1 November and in winter for winter walkers and skiers; the Kristberg road may only be used with a permit in summer and is closed in winter. From our house allow about 35 minutes to Silbertal (bus 650 to Schruns, local bus 680 to the Kristbergbahn valley station, free car park). At the top, combine your visit with St Agatha's chapel, the Silberpfad trail or the Panoramagasthof Kristberg, 250 m further on. Open Monday and Wednesday to Sunday 10 am – 6 pm, closed Tuesdays.
