Silvretta-Bielerhöhe crag

There are two places to climb at the Bielerhöhe. New and easy to reach is the Kletterpark Silvrettasee right at the dam: six routes in rough Silvretta gneiss, two of them multi-pitch at 65 m (two pitches of 22 m, UIAA 4+/5-) and four single-pitch routes of 23 m at grade 3 to 4+, bolts about 2.2 m apart, chain anchors with double rings – there is no walk-off at the top, you abseil. Next to it runs the 320 m dam via ferrata (A/B) with a rope bridge over the spillway and a pendulum swing, holds and steps made of Silvretta stone, finishing on the dam crest. A little way off lies the older Klettergarten Silvretta: a gneiss block with walls up to 45 m and routes from 4+ to 8, with partly widely spaced bolts and thus more for experienced climbers; the wardens of the Wiesbadener Hütte list 17 routes.

You can get there without a car: bus 650 or a 10-minute drive to Partenen, Vermunt cable car and tunnel bus to the Bielerhöhe (2026: 20 June to 4 October, last descent 17.00) – the high alpine road on the Vorarlberg side is closed until 2030 as things stand, and the Vermunt cable car car park is closed in 2026 for construction work. The old crag used to be reached from the car park after hairpin 30 of the road; whether it is currently sensibly accessible is best checked at the Silvrettahaus. Ideal for families: via ferrata or climbing park in the morning, lake loop in the afternoon.
