Wiesbadener Hütte crag

Climbing routes and two 40 m practice via ferratas (A/B, B/C) five minutes from the Wiesbadener Hütte (2,443 m) – training base below Piz Buin, 2 hours from the Bielerhöhe.

summer · 7-9

The Wiesbadener Hütte (2,443 m, DAV Wiesbaden section) stands at the end of the Ochsental below Piz Buin (3,312 m) and sees itself as a high alpine training base: glacier practice terrain at the door, climbing routes in gneiss and – five minutes’ walk away at about 2,300 m – two practice via ferratas of roughly 40 m each at grades A/B and B/C, where beginners try out sets and technique before tackling the big routes. From June to September the wardens run climbing and high-mountain courses; the normal routes up Piz Buin, Silvrettahorn and Dreiländerspitze also start here. For children the terrain is a good school; you have to bring your own equipment.

The approach starts at the Bielerhöhe: from our house by bus 650 or a 10-minute drive to Partenen, then Vermunt cable car and tunnel bus (2026: 20 June to 4 October) – the high alpine road on the Vorarlberg side stays closed until 2030 as things stand, and the Vermunt cable car car park is closed in 2026 for construction work. From the Silvrettasee the wide path leads through the Ochsental in 2 to 2½ hours and about 400 m of ascent to the hut. It is staffed in summer roughly from mid-June to the end of September, has 80 beds and 100 dormitory places and takes cash only; if you want to try the via ferratas at leisure, stay overnight.
