Tübinger Hütte crag
Crag and boulders at the Tübinger Hütte (2,191 m) at the head of the Garneratal – alpine practice terrain in gneiss, 4 to 5 hours’ approach from Gaschurn.
The Tübinger Hütte (2,191 m) stands at the very head of the Garneratal, a quiet side valley of Gaschurn, and has belonged to the DAV Tübingen section since 1908. It is a classic training hut: near the hut there is a crag and boulders in Silvretta gneiss which, according to the section, are being extended continuously, plus crevasse-rescue and climbing courses. For experienced climbers the Norristurm beckons, about 50 minutes from the hut: solid rock, original route 5+ to 6+, variant over the “nose” 6+, descent by abseil from chains – you need nuts, cams and a 60 m double rope here. Further afield are the routes on Hochmaderer, Großlitzner and Großes Seehorn. The hut publishes no verified figures on routes and grades at the crag itself; ask the warden for the current state.
The approach is the real effort: from Gaschurn through the Garneratal 4 to 5 hours, alternatively from the Vermunt reservoir over the Hochmadererjoch (3½ to 4½ hours) or from the Versettla top station on the Erich-Endriss-Weg. From our house bus 650 takes you in 10 minutes to the Gaschurn Versettla-Bahn stop (large free car park). The hut opens on 1 July 2026 and is staffed until the end of September, 85 sleeping places, online booking via hut-reservation.org, dinner at 18.00, cash only. This is not a day trip – plan at least one night.
