Partenen is where the history of the Vorarlberger Illwerke began in 1930 with the Vermunt power station, and the energie.raum in the Vallülahaus on the Silvrettastraße explains exactly that: how meltwater from the Silvretta becomes electricity, how the valley's reservoirs and power stations interlock, and how the energy industry has changed since then. Over two floors there are films about building the plants, information stations and models; the “Kraft.raum” on the ground floor serves as the introduction. The whole thing is designed as a hands-on exhibition for adults and children – a classic wet-weather destination.

One caveat we have to state honestly: in autumn 2026 the illwerke vkw operator website no longer lists the energie.raum, the former address redirects to the overview of their power station visitor centres, and the neighbouring Vermunt plant is being completely refurbished until autumn 2026. So please phone +43 5556 701-83495 before visiting, or ask at the tourist office. From our house it is 8.5 km or 11 minutes, and bus 650 stops in the centre of Partenen. Right opposite are the Naturraum.Verwall and the Atelier Arte Ferrum, a few steps further the parish church and the valley station of the Vermunt cable car – so Partenen fills a rainy day nicely.
