Parish church Partenen

Partenen is the last village in the valley, and its church of St Martin stands deliberately on a spot that seemed safe from avalanches and floods. Built in 1728/29 as a small church and raised to a curacy around 1789, it burned down on 24 April 1800 together with the presbytery, school and archive – and was rebuilt the very same year, helped by donations from the Tyrolean Oberland and the Paznaun. An extension followed in 1868 and an interior restoration in 1972. The building is plain Baroque: nave and choir under one gabled roof, a north tower with an octagonal belfry and onion dome, and inside a barrel vault with lunettes. The high altar of 1728 carries a crucifix by Christian Moosbrugger and two angels from the workshop of Josef Klemens Witwer, the pulpit of 1800 bears a relief of the Sermon on the Mount, and the frescoes were painted by Anton Marte in 1926. A Lenten painting of the Crucifixion by Josef Anton Bertle (1838) came here in 2001 from the old Gaschurn church.

From our house it is 8.4 km or 11 minutes; bus 650 terminates in Partenen. Mass is on Sundays at 7 pm and Wednesdays at 9 am (as of 2026). A few steps away are the illwerke vkw energie.raum and the valley station of the Vermunt cable car, which in summer leads via the tunnel bus to the Bielerhöhe.
