Naturraum.Verwall

The Verwall between the Montafon, Klostertal and Paznaun is one of Vorarlberg's largest European protected areas, with mountain forests, moors, alpine grassland and the Wiegensee lake. The Naturraum.Verwall in Partenen makes this landscape tangible on around 75 m²: its centrepiece is a landscape model onto which projections lay seasons, habitats and protected-area boundaries; there are also touchscreens, habitat pictures by the artist Ina Hsu on forest, moor, grassland and rock, and an information stand on Natura 2000. The exhibition was opened on 27 June 2025 by the municipality of Gaschurn together with the Verwall-Klostertaler Bergwälder nature conservation association and the Province of Vorarlberg, housed in the former tourist office – which is also the starting point for hikes into the protected area. Children get their own exhibition guide with the mascots Frieda and Kauzi.

The room is open daily from 7 am to 10 pm and free of charge, so it is ideal as a rainy-day programme or as preparation for a hike to the Wiegensee. From our house it is 8.5 km or 11 minutes; bus 650 stops in the centre of Partenen. The Atelier Arte Ferrum works in the same building, the energie.raum is opposite, and a few steps further are the parish church of St Martin and the Vermunt cable car.
