Church Latschau

Latschau, the part of Tschagguns at the foot of the Golm, grew rapidly with the construction of the Lünersee power station from 1954 to 1958 – and the old chapel became too small. In 1965/66 the architects German Meusburger and Walter Ramersdorfer built the daughter church of the Transfiguration, consecrated in 1968. The building is a rectangle whose entrance and altar walls are slightly pointed, under a deeply drawn-down gabled roof; light enters through side window bands and two concrete-glass windows on the themes of the Transfiguration and St Anthony of Padua, designed by Martin Häusle and executed by Margarethe Häusle in 1966. In contrast stands the oldest piece in the room: a late-Gothic Madonna and Child of about 1515/20 on the altar wall, restored by Konrad Honold in 1967. The organ was built by Martin Pflüger between 1981 and 1983 with ten stops; the two bells date from 1950. The church belongs to the parish of Tschagguns and is a listed monument.

From our house it is 13.2 km or 18 minutes; buses 601 and 605 run from Schruns to Latschau, and parking is at the Golm cable car valley station. A few steps away are the Latschau reservoir with its circular path, the showroom in the Lünersee power station and the way up the Golm with alpine coaster and forest rope park – the church is the quiet prelude to all that.
