Bitschweil Loop

The Bitschweil Loop is the big circuit on the hillside above Tschagguns: 11.3 km and 630 m of ascent between 663 and 1,129 m, graded difficult. From Aktivpark Montafon you first run flat down the Ill promenade into the centre of Tschagguns, climb past the parish church via Ziegerberg and follow the Gampadels stream uphill until the Bitschweilstraße leads into the hamlet of Bitschweil. The return drops via Bödmenstein and back onto the Ill promenade. The loop alternates between small tarmac lanes, forest tracks and meadow paths; the slope faces the sun and keeps opening views across the valley floor of Schruns-Tschagguns. The roughly 2¾ hours in our fact box is a guide value for walkers – runners should allow considerably less.

There is a place to eat on the highest section: the Wirtschaft Bitschweil is open in the 2026 summer season from 8 May, closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. If you prefer it shorter and steeper, take the Aquastiege with its 914 steps instead of the road climb. The Aktivpark is 11 minutes by car from our house, or take bus 650/651 to Tschagguns Zelfen or the Montafonerbahn train to Tschagguns; after the run the Alpenbad Montafon pool is right next door.
