Bodastall Loop

The Bodastall Loop is the shortest route in the Kristberg running network and ideal as a warm-up or for an evening at altitude: 3.8 km, 175 m of ascent, between 1,286 and 1,445 m. From the Kristbergbahn top station it heads down via Kappu and Totabühel, follows the Kristbergstraße for a stretch and takes the Bodastallweg past the Kristberg Maisäß hamlet – the old intermediate-pasture huts that are part of the Montafon's cultural landscape. Via Stelzer the only real climb comes at the end, back up to the top station. About 60 per cent of the loop is tarmac, the rest gravel and path; the one hour in our fact box is a guide value for walkers, runners need roughly half. The Kristberg is known as the sun balcony of the Montafon, with views of the Rätikon and Verwall ranges.

The Panoramagasthof Kristberg stands at the top station, and the miners' chapel of St Agatha is a few minutes further on. The Kristbergbahn cable car runs in summer 2026 from 1 May to 1 November and is included in the Freizeit-WildPass; alternatively a road leads up to the Kristberg. From our house in St. Gallenkirch it is about 21 minutes to the valley station in Silbertal (bus 680 from Schruns) or 29 minutes by car to the top.
