Gaschurn-Partenen Loop

19.2 km valley loop from Gaschurn via the Vermuntwerk through Partenen and back via Rifa – only 457 m of ascent, the long steady run of the upper Montafon.

The Gaschurn-Partenen Loop is one of the longest and at the same time flattest routes in the Gaschurn-Partenen running network: 19.2 km with 457 m of ascent between 917 and 1,178 m, graded moderate. From the Mountain Beach leisure park it heads up the valley to the Rifa basin and the Vermunt power station, Illwerke's first plant, commissioned in 1930, and on through Partenen: past the swimming pool, the 9-hole golf course and the toll station of the Silvretta High Alpine Road, then past the Vallülasaal and across the Bischof-Rudigier-Platz through the village centre. The square commemorates Franz Joseph Rudigier, born in Partenen in 1811, who as Bishop of Linz initiated the building of Linz's Mariendom cathedral. On the other side of the valley you return via Rifa, Gosta, Winkel and Außerbach to Gaschurn. Underfoot: cycle path, village streets and meadow tracks – ideal for running long and evenly in the upper Montafon. The 3 hours 20 minutes in our fact box is a guide value for walkers.

To split the distance, hop on bus 650 in Partenen, which runs the same way back to Gaschurn and on to St. Gallenkirch. Water from the village fountains, refreshments in both villages. Mountain Beach is 6 minutes by car from our house; the morning, with the valley still in shade, is the most pleasant time to run.

The route leads via Vermuntkraftwerk, Gufelste, Ortzentrum Partenen, Vallülasaal and Bischof-Rudigier-Platz and back to the starting point.

💡 Tips & refreshments

For almost 20 km, definitely carry a hydration pack and bars; you share the village sections with cars and cyclists. The Silvretta High Alpine Road above the toll station is closed on the Vorarlberg side until around 2030.

🚌 Getting there by public transport

Landbus 650, stop Gaschurn Versettla cable car (approx. 10 min from St. Gallenkirch); ski bus in winter.
