Ill Riverside Loop Gaschurn

The Ill Riverside Loop is the beginners' and family circuit in the Gaschurn-Partenen running network: 4.1 km, 48 m of ascent, between 894 and 941 m, practically level. From the Mountain Beach leisure park it follows the Ill path along the river, crosses to the other bank on the wooden bridge, runs along the Blendolmaweg to the “Brönna” Kneipp water-treading basin by the tennis courts and returns over the Ill bridge, the Ill path and the cycle path to the start. The Ill is still a young, fast mountain river here; the wooded slopes of the Versettla and the Valschaviel side rise on either hand, and in the morning the valley floor lies pleasantly in shade. Underfoot: riverside path, cycle path and short stretches of tarmac; the 39 minutes in our fact box is a guide value for strollers – runners are done in about 20 minutes, or simply do two laps.

The nice thing about this route is the finish: in the Kneipp basin you can cool your legs in the cold Ill water, and Mountain Beach has natural swimming lakes with a sandy beach (2026 season: 22 May to 31 August). Children happily run along here because there is no climb to tackle. From our house it is 5 minutes by car or about 10 minutes on bus 650 to the Gaschurn Versettla-Bahn stop, from where the river is a few minutes' walk.
