Gaschurn Loop via Außerbach

Valley loop from Gaschurn: down the Ill to Außerbach and back via Pfoppa, Vand and the Untere Gosta – 4.8 km, 122 m of ascent, 1½ hours.

easy winter · 12-3 🐕 Dogs allowed
Elevation profile↗ 122 m ↘ 121 m

This loop links the valley floor with the lower sunny slope of Gaschurn (979 m): from the tourist office in the village centre you pass the Spar shop to the Mountain Beach leisure park and then follow the Ill down the valley to the hamlet of Außerbach – on a groomed track here according to the provincial trail data. On the way back you climb gently via “Of dr Märk”, Pfoppa, Unteres and Oberes Vand to Winkel and the Untere Gosta with its adventure playground, from where you drop back into the village. 4.83 km, 122 m of ascent, about 1½ hours, easy; along the way riverbank, snowy meadows and the old Montafon houses of the hamlets alternate, with views of the Versettla side opposite and down the valley towards St. Gallenkirch.

From our house 6 minutes by car (parking at the municipal office or at the school opposite the Versettla cable car) or about 10 minutes on Landbus 650. Refreshments in the inns in the centre. We recommend the loop for families – playground at the end, hardly any climbing – and as a complement to the village walk, which continues along the same Illweg down the valley.
