This loop takes you to the shady side of the valley, where Gaschurn (979 m) is at its quietest: from the neo-Romanesque parish church of St Michael (1869) you climb behind the Hotel Felbermayer to the Maria Schnee chapel, built according to its inscription in 1637 on a hill above the village, then cross the Ill bridge and pass the fire station into the hamlets of Ober- and Unter-Trantrauas with their old Montafon houses. Through the Harzawald forest you reach the Rifabecken, the Illwerke's balancing reservoir at around 1,007 m, which in winter lies between snow-covered banks, and return along the river to Gaschurn. 5.25 km, 108 m of ascent, about 2 hours, easy – according to the provincial trail data mostly on groomed paths, cleared within the village.

From our house 6 minutes by car (car park opposite the fire station at the Versettla cable car) or about 10 minutes on Landbus 650 to Gaschurn Versettla Bahn. Refreshments in the village inns. If you want to go further, continue from the Rifabecken up the valley to Partenen – that is the route “Gaschurn via the Rifabecken to Partenen” – and take line 650 back.
