Gaschurn Village Loop

The village loop is the quickest way to get to know Gaschurn (979 m): from the tourist office in the centre you climb via the Innere Gosta to the Maria Schnee chapel, which according to its inscription was founded in 1637 by the Gaschurn native Lukas Tschofen on a hill above the village and is still a place of pilgrimage, and come back down to the neo-Romanesque parish church of St Michael from 1869. Right beside it, above the Ill, stands the roughly 500-year-old Tanzlaube, a simple timber building that once served as courtroom, market and dance floor and is the last of its kind surviving in the Montafon; opposite, in the former Frühmesshaus, is the Alpine and Tourism Museum, and you return past the primary school. 1.58 km, 48 m of ascent, about 30 minutes, easy, on cleared village paths.

From our house 6 minutes by car (parking in the centre or at the Versettla cable car) or about 10 minutes on Landbus 650. The museum – opened in 1992 as Austria's first tourism museum – is open on weekday afternoons in winter (as of 2026: Tue–Fri 3–5 pm). Refreshments in the village inns; the loop fits before or after a ski day at the Versettla cable car (winter 2026/27: 3 December 2026 to 11 April 2027).
