Grabs via the Volspora to Latschau

This route is the scenic way down on foot: from the Berggasthof Grabs (around 1,370 m) you follow the continuously groomed winter trail out via the Sanüel alp to the Volspora – a detour of about ten minutes on an almost level path is worthwhile for the view of the Drei Türme – and then down through the forest by the Rasafei stream to Latschau (around 1,000 m) and the bus stop by the reservoir. 4.59 km, only 75 m up and 444 m down, about 1¾ hours, easy. Along the way historic Maisäß and alp huts lie in the snow, and opposite stand the Golm, the Vandanser Steinwand with the Zimba, further on the Walserkamm, the Davenna group and the Verwall. Portals list the route as family-friendly.

Logistics are the question with this route: from our house it is 26 minutes by car to Grabs (access from Tschagguns via the Ziegerbergstraße and Grabsweg, carry snow chains, paid parking at the inn) – but then you have to get back up from Latschau. We therefore recommend climbing from Latschau over the Ziegerberg to Grabs (a separate route) and descending via the Volspora, or using the toboggan run from the inn. Refreshments at the Berggasthof Grabs, daily except Wednesday in winter (according to the operator from mid-December until shortly after Easter).
