Winter walking trail Sonnenbahn

To be honest, this is less a hike than a viewpoint stroll: from the Valisera Bahn top station (2,106 m) a marked path leads 250 m and 37 m of ascent up to the Sonnenbahn top station at 2,143 m, and you walk back the same way. Five minutes, no more – but at the top you stand on one of the finest viewpoints in the ski area, with the Rätikon, Verwall and Silvretta all around and the St. Gallenkirch valley far below. The operator rates the path as moderate because of the short, steep and often hard-frozen climb.

The Valisera Bahn starts in St. Gallenkirch, 2 km from our house, and carries pedestrians with the "ascent & descent" ticket to the top in a few minutes; right at the top station is the Valisera Hüsli mountain restaurant, one of the Silvretta Montafon's most traditional huts. The path is tied to lift operation (winter 2026/27: 28 November 2026 to 11 April 2027).
