Winter walking trail Valisera II

The steep Valisera descent: 2.7 km and 468 m down from the top station (2,101 m) to the Valisera Bahn middle station – only open with good snow cover.

Valisera II is the most demanding winter trail in the Silvretta Montafon – not because of its length but because of the gradient: 2.7 km and 468 m downhill, from the Valisera Bahn top station at 2,101 m to the middle station at 1,633 m, about an hour and a quarter. The operator rates it as difficult and opens it only with sufficient snow; if only Valisera I is open, the lower section stays closed. The path drops in bends through the slope above St. Gallenkirch, always with the Rätikon opposite, and according to the operator can also be walked in reverse as an ascent from the middle station when open.

From the middle station you take the Valisera Bahn back up or down to the valley – the pedestrian "ascent & descent" ticket covers both; winter operation 2026/27 from 28 November 2026 to 11 April 2027. The valley station is 2 km from our house in St. Gallenkirch, on foot along the Illweg or by bus 650/670 to the Valisera-Bahn stop. Before you set off, a stop at the Valisera Hüsli or the short detour to the Sonnenbahn top station is worthwhile.

💡 Tips & refreshments

Spikes are essential here and poles very helpful; not for pushchairs, small children or unsteady walkers. Check the trail status on silvretta-montafon.at before setting off – if it is closed, do not go down on your own initiative. Dogs on a lead.
